Going for your BSN? These days, convenience is key. You likely already have a full-time RN practice and are squeezing study time in via traditional campus-based programs, or online ones. But we were recently told there is a third way to do it. The Celtic Scholar offers long-distance nursing programs from the University of Dundee in Scotland with all students individually tutored via telephone. Ms. Dorrian told us that BSN-level nurses are found to have higher levels of job satisfaction. Nurse administrators and chief nursing officers recognize distinct differences in competencies based on education, especially in the areas of communication and problem-solving skills, preferring to hire nurses who have a BSN degree.

“Registered nurses work as part of an interdisciplinary team of colleagues educated at the master’s level or higher and should not be the least educated member of the healthcare team,” Ms. Dorrian adds.
