The latest edition of Modern Healthcare’s annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare is dominated by political leaders and insurance industry heavy hitters, but several prominent nursing leaders are among the honorees.

2016 Nurse Honorees

The highest-ranked nurse on the 2016 list, at No. 24, is a familiar name to Working Nurse readers: ANA President Pamela F. Cipriano, RN, Ph.D., NEA-BC, FAAN. This is the second time Cipriano has made the prestigious list. Last year, she also made Modern Healthcare’s biennial list of the Top 25 Women in Healthcare.

Next, at No. 33, is another familiar name: Sister Carol Keehan, RN, D.C., BSN, M.S., president and CEO of the Catholic Health Association of the United States, making her 11th appearance on the list.

No. 39 is three-time honoree Beverly Malone, RN, Ph.D., FAAN, who since 2007 has been CEO of the National League for Nursing, the leading professional organization for nursing educators.

Coming in at No. 100 is Nancy Howell Agee, RN, MN, president and CEO of Virginia’s Carilion Clinic health system. In July, the American Hospital Association (AHA) Board of Trustees named Agee as the next AHA chair, a role she will assume in 2018.

Other Notables

Although neither is a nurse, two other 2016 honorees head prominent nursing organizations: RoseAnn DeMoro, executive director of the labor union National Nurses United, was No. 46, while American Association of Nurse Practitioners CEO David Hebert, J.D., was No. 72.
