Patient Safety Coordinator, RN
Job Description
The Patient Safety Coordinator is responsible for the facilitation and program administration of the Patient Safety Program under the direction of the Department Director and/or Patient and Medication Safety Manager. This role assists with implementation of all components of the patient safety plan across the hospital and outpatient clinics.
This role has responsibility for the incident reporting system and reporting to external and regulatory agencies as appropriate. The Coordinator acts as a resource to employees and medical staff members and works collaboratively to successfully implement effective patient safety strategies. This role will champion Patient Safety Science and Just Culture.
Qualifications
Licensure and Certification:
- Current California RN license
- Current certification as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) preferred
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Graduate degree (MPH, MHA, MBA or MSN) preferred
Experience:
Minimum three (3) years acute care/licensed hospital nursing experience
Minimum two (2) years’ experience in any combination of the following areas:
- Quality
- Performance Improvement
- Patient Safety
- Risk Management
- Accreditation/Regulatory/Licensing
- Infection Prevention and Control
- Management
Preferred experience:
- Experience in Emergency or Critical Care areas
- Current or recent minimum 2 years as Patient Safety Coordinator, Medication Safety Coordinator, or Risk Coordinator
- Experience with incident reports, Root Cause Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Patient Safety Science, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, Patient Safety Indicators, and Just Culture
Comparable level of education, training and experience will be considered
