White Memorial and Providence Health in the spotlight this month
As we do every month, we salute two local hospitals who have recently won awards:
Providence Health & Services, Southern California earned honors as the first health system in the state to receive Healthgrades’ Distinguished Hospital Award for all of they system’s eligible facilities: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in the San Fernando Valley, Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and Providence Tarzana Medical Center were all among the 262 hospitals nationwide recognized by Healthgrades for clinical excellence. The award is based on an evaluation of 27 different factors, including various conditions and procedures. As a group, winners have a lower in-hospital mortality rates than other hospitals Healthgrades has evaluated.
White Memorial Medical Center (photo above) recently received the Collaborative Alliance for Nursing Outcomes’ Sustained Excellence Award for best performance in the reduction of pressure ulcers of Stage II or worse. This is the third year in a row that White Memorial has been recognized for reducing hospital-acquired conditions.
The hospital has focused on identifying at-risk patients as well as replacing all mattresses and pillows in the hospital, providing regular staff training on wound care and designating “wound care champions” on each hospital unit.
Such awards would not be possibly without the excellent work of those hospitals’ nursing staffs. Congratulations on a job well done.
