Unit Manager – Emergency – Queen of the Valley Hospital
Job Description
The Unit Manager is responsible for supervising staff and the operation and overall flow of the unit, and is a role model for all staff. He/she is responsible for coordinating unit schedules and staff assignments and participating in the performance appraisal process.
The Unit Manager is responsible for ensuring staff meets the approved Standards of Practice, for managing assigned personnel and unit activities and for promoting cooperative working relationships with physicians and other health care providers. Provides patient care as needed.
He/she is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units. He/she ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the unit's standard of care. Assists the unit Director in planning, organizing, directing, delegating, and evaluation. Facilitates quality outcomes of patient care and provides leadership in the practice environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Requirement:
- Attends at least one leadership seminar each year.
- BS/BSN preferred.
Minimum Experience Requirement:
- Two years of experience is required in specialty area.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
- Understanding of critical care principles/monitoring for critical care and the emergency department.
Minimum License Requirement:
- California RN license BLS required.
- Certification in area of specialty preferred (i.e. CCRN, PCCN, MICN, M/S).
- ACLS required.
- Assaultive Behavior Training Certification that meets AB508 and SB1299 required within 30 days of hire/transfer.
- New hires that have completed Assaultive Behavior training outside of Emanate Health will be required to complete Emanate Health Work Place Violence online awareness module within 30 days of hire/transfer.
- Annual 6 hours of stroke education required for those working at QVH.
