Nursing Assistant I/II
Under general supervision of a licensed nurse, is responsible for performing a variety of support functions for professional staff involved in in-patient nursing services throughout Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital and for performing other related work as required.
Nursing Assistant I/ Nursing Assistant I-PDP is entry level and Nursing Assistant II/ Nursing Assistant II-PDP is journey level.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Takes blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration of patients.
- Prepares patients and assists in their feeding.
- Weighs, bathes, and dresses patients; performs oral hygiene; changes linens and makes patients' beds.
- Performs routine patient care and performs postmortem duties and responsibilities.
- Passes bedpans and operates mechanical lifts.
- May chart patient vital signs, intake, and out-put; observes and reports any unusual circumstances or changes in patient condition.
- May provide limited clerical support.
- Transports patients as needed for admission, discharge, procedures, etc.
- Assists with ambulatory patients.Maintains a safe environment.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Nursing Assistant I:
Three (3) months of experience in a licensed nursing facility or other comparable work experience or educational coursework in a health care related field.
Nursing Assistant II:
At least six (6) months of experience as a Nursing Assistant I at the Ventura County Medical Center or comparable work experience; OR a Certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician; OR a combination of comparable work experience/coursework (e.g., 3 months of experience as a Nursing Assistant plus Emergency Medical Technician coursework); OR Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA Certificate) issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Candidates must have a valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certificate prior to the first day of employment and maintain it thereafter.
DESIRED:
Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA Certificate) issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs.Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program, approved by the State of California.
