Job Description

Under direction of the Chief Nurse Executive or designee and following established medically-approved policies and procedures, implements specialized skilled nursing processes in designated hospital units of the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) and Santa Paula Hospital (SPH). 

Distinguishing Characteristics:  

The Senior Registered Nurse-Hospital is distinguished from other staff nursing classifications in that incumbents demonstrate advanced competency skills reflecting specialized knowledge specific to the assigned hospital unit, participate in performance improvement processes, and provide technical direction.  

Incumbents are expected to work at the full scope of their licensure/specialty area with a decreasing amount of supervision commensurate with their experience.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE  

• Requires two (2) years of full-time professional acute care registered nursing experience. 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California.
• Must possess a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certificate by the first day of employment.
• At least 1 year in a supervisory position, including charge nurse, supervisor or manager.

DESIRED

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Trauma center experience
• House supervisory experience
• Administrative, management, and/or supervisory experience
